Background of the Study
Parkinson’s disease is a chronic, progressive neurological disorder that primarily affects movement and can lead to significant disability. Nurses play a crucial role in managing Parkinson’s patients, particularly in symptom management, patient education, and providing support for daily activities. This study aims to assess nurses’ knowledge and practice in managing patients with Parkinson’s disease in Bauchi State hospitals.
Statement of the Problem
Although Parkinson’s disease is a common neurodegenerative disorder, nurses in Bauchi State hospitals may face challenges in providing optimal care due to limited knowledge and resources. Understanding how well nurses manage Parkinson’s disease patients and their adherence to best practices is essential for improving care outcomes.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the level of nurses’ knowledge regarding Parkinson’s disease in Bauchi State hospitals.
To evaluate nurses’ adherence to best practices in managing Parkinson’s disease patients.
To identify the challenges nurses face in providing care for Parkinson’s disease patients.
Research Questions
What is the level of knowledge among nurses in Bauchi State hospitals regarding Parkinson’s disease management?
How do nurses in Bauchi State practice Parkinson’s disease management?
What are the barriers that hinder nurses from providing optimal care to Parkinson’s disease patients?
Research Hypotheses
Nurses in Bauchi State hospitals have limited knowledge of Parkinson’s disease management.
Nurses in Bauchi State hospitals do not consistently adhere to best practices in managing Parkinson’s disease patients.
There are significant barriers, such as lack of training and resources, that hinder optimal care for Parkinson’s disease patients.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on nurses working in hospitals that provide care for Parkinson’s disease patients in Bauchi State. Limitations include challenges in accurately assessing nurses’ knowledge and practice, and variability in Parkinson’s disease care across different hospitals.
